One cold December night, curious minds from a wide range of countries gathered for our first ever “Christmas Pub Quiz”. There wasn’t a pub, but there were questions and merriment. Here’s how it went, and how you can take the quiz yourself and test your knowledge.

If you have lived and worked in the UK, you probably know about the tradition of the “pub quiz”.

These are especially popular around Christmas, and (although we don’t have a Leonardo English pub) I wanted to recreate this tradition for our member event in December.

The format of the quiz

The premise was simple: a quiz based on themes from English Learning for Curious Minds in 2022.

There were five sections of the quiz: Kings & Queens, Weird History, Society & Culture, Food & Drink, Weird Britain.

Every question was something that was covered in an English Learning for Curious Minds episode this year, although a lot of the questions would have fallen under the category of "general knowledge".

We used a tool called AhaSlides, which allowed people to enter their responses real-time, and it kept the score as we went along.

It was a lot of fun, and particularly exciting to watch the leaderboard change as the quiz progressed.

The top prize went to Alex, who managed to beat our last winner (Karolina), and win the Christmas prize this year.

So, well done to you, Alex.

Take the quiz

I’ve actually recreated this quiz so that anyone can test their knowledge of English Learning for Curious Minds in 2022.
